Furnishing the English Country House

First Regional Public Library, 370 Commerce St, Hernando

Special Guest Dr. Walter R. Brown, Associate Professor, University of Memphis, Adjunct Curator of Decorative Arts for the Brooks Museum of Art, presents The Country House. Learn how these were designed and furnished to project the status and wealth of its aristocratic inhabitants,  as well as to provide comfort and a suitable setting for a glittering social life.  Look at the furnishings and art in English country houses similar to Downton Abbey that provided the opulent setting for the lives of their occupants. We will have cards with various furnishings from Downton Abbey and other English estates so attendees will draw a card with the question “where would you place this in your home?” Drawing for a Downton  Abbey t-shirt.
