In September 2006, St. Mary’s Catholic Church celebrated 100 years, a feat of endurance in itself and beyond all imaginings and hope for those who started the in 1906. Young German nuns, barely out of their teens and learning a language in transit, would make their way to a very strange place and work among blacks who were hated. The personal danger these priests and nuns faced was daunting and all but assured. Drive-by only.
